Plagiarism and kind of Plagiarism

In this modern era, we can access anything through the sophistication of existing technology. Such as looking for some ideas, learning about something we have never known before, looking for information etc. But there is also a negative side from the technological sophistication that exists. Plagiarism is one of the negative side. Many people usually copy anything without telling the source they copy. this can be a bad habit, because they are dishonest. Even though we know that the idea is hard to come by. but not infrequently there are still those who like to do it. In KBBI Plagiarism is the taking of essays, opinions and so on of others and making it as if it were his own writing, for example publishing other people's writing on his own behalf; plagiarism.
According to the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, to "plagiarize" means:
·         "to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own
·         to use (another's production) without crediting the source
·         to commit literary theft
·         to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source."
In other words, plagiarism is an act of fraud.
And Law No. 28 of 2014 concerning Copyright has clearly regulated it. According to Nevile (2010) in The Complete Referencing Guide and Voiding Plagiarism says that plagiarism is a form of action to take other people's ideas or writings without mentioning references and claiming to be their own work.
There are kinds of Plagiarism :

  • Copying another person's work word for word. Inserting a paragraph from a book or article into your essay, without including attribution or quotation marks, is direct plagiarism. Paying someone to write an essay for you and submitting the essay as your own work its called Direct Plagiarism

  • Paraphrase Plagiarism make some changes to the work of others, then say it's ours. we cannot change it without giving quotes and the author's name.
  • Combination of Direct and Paraphrase Plagiarism. This type involves tossing various words, phrases, and sentences into your essay without providing quotation marks. It’s "Mosaic" plagiarism
  • Accidental plagiarism occurs when citations are missing or sources are cited incorrectly. Accidental plagiarism is often the result of a disorganized research process and a last-minute time crunch. Ultimately, if you fail to cite your sources appropriately, you've committed plagiarism—even if you had every intention of giving credit.
